One Last Shot at a $99 HP Tablet

The HP TouchPad: If you blinked, you may have missed it. The tablet launched on July 1 and was killed off on August 18. TouchPad, we hardly knew ye.
In no time at all, HP dropped the TouchPad’s starting price—originally $499—down to a frenzy-inducing $99. It was like Black Friday, except with more geeks and less pepper spray. The tablets sold out faster than a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.
But if you missed out on the initial $99 TouchPad firesale, there may still be one last sliver of hope. TechCrunch is reporting that HP’s set to blow out additional stock of the 16- and 32-gigabyte versions of the tablet in its eBay store, starting Sunday night at 7pm Eastern.
There’s a catch—a few, actually. For starters, these tablets will apparently be refurbished units with 90-day warranties—not new ones, like with the original sale. Still: $99! Second, they’ll only be available via HP’s eBay store and you’ll have to use Paypal to purchase them. Still: $99! Third, you’ll only be able to purchase two of them. Still… you get the point.
Also, according to HP’s internal memo that TechCrunch apparently got its hands on, the sale won’t be announced to the general public until Monday morning in order to give HP employees a chance to purchase tablets for themselves first. Assuming this sale still goes off at 7pm as planned, you’ll have a head start on anyone who doesn’t read TechCrunch, this blog or any other tech site that’s written about this same topic, yet still knows what the HP TouchPad is.
In other words, you might want to be in front of your computer at around 7pm on Sunday night if you want to have a shot at this sale.
